Chapter 1251 Convalesce (8)
after ames and libb discussed the outline for the joint research project, they agreed to formally meet with the rest of their clan's executives after the conference. they set a date and venue before concluding the meeting.
libb and her group left first, and after a few minutes, ames, attor, and eissen also returned to their assigned residence.
ames and her group remained silent after parting ways with the numen clan. they did not talk to each other even when they stayed behind. after reaching their residence and eissen confirmed that the inside remained safe, they finally loosened their guard slightly and talked.
"i don't know whether to be flattered or frustrated."
the first one to voice his thoughts was attor. he looked at ames and eissen with a bitter smile before adding, "to think that they want to leave the book in our possession."
that was right. by the end of the meeting, libb announced her intention of leaving the book in the dragon clan's possession. obviously, she did not do that because of blind faith in them but because she wanted to avoid the emperor's
sight
.
still, ames did not shy away from libb's intentions and accepted the book without hesitation. in a sense, ames agreed that the book would be safer in their hands than the numen clan. not only did the latter not have enough influence and strength to oppose the emperor, but also, there was no telling when the book's aura would start to attract the attention of those representatives who had lived before the fall.
for the record, most leaders and representatives who attended the conference were either too young or had not been born before the fall. thus, they would not recognize the aura emitted by the book. however, there were a handful of representatives at the conference who might.
of course, these mages might not be familiar with the ancient magic's
aura
. and would not be able to recognize it. but to be on the safe side, it was best for the dragon clan to camouflage its existence with their aura.
"even if libb's intentions are unpure, i prefer to have the book in our possession," ames replied with a sigh. she sat on the long couch, rested her head on the backrest, and continued, "for a long time, we have only known two books like this in existence. though father speculated that there are more, with four as its limit."
eissen nodded, "we have one in the treasury and the other in the tower family's possession." find exclusive stories on empire
ames straightened her back and looked at him, "have you tried opening the book in the treasury?"
eissen shook his head, "no. lord aillos said the only one who could was the previous dragon lord."
"that's right," ames nodded, recalling the numen clan said something similar.
despite this, the clans, such as the dragon clan, remained expressionless. they merely observed rather than participating in the festivities.
at the same time, in the dragon plane, ducal, the rest of the aides, and the tribe leaders continued with their preparation. since they deduced that the emperor would attack after the conference, they did not waste any moment producing armaments and training their talents.
the regis family was the same. having received geir and ullieam's message, they continued to train in the tower of the ancients.
since kyran did not get to adjust the tower's danger level, each level could threaten the regis family. they might have succeeded in improving their mage levels, but they were far from being a sovereign.
some did breakthrough, but the majority were still legendary or at a sage level.
fortunately, rae managed to communicate with the tower, and although the difficulty level remained, the objectives were adjusted on each level. the killing intents of all automatons were also adjusted, and their priority now was to combat all participants until they deemed they had improved.
meanwhile, back in the unnamed plane, kyran finally completed the array formation after two days and started stabilizing the portal. he could not configure the portal's path since he still could not use void magic. at first, he was frustrated by this. but in the end, he decided to focus on what he could do rather than dwell in frustration.
kyran shared some of his blueprints with the blade dancer clan's artisans and had them start creating them. at one point, zigor realized what the magic item on the blueprint could do and wondered why kyran wanted them to use such an item.
"i know your origins are weapons, and i don't doubt that when you manifest your core, it is comparable to a powerful magic weapon. but don't you think two mages working together is better than one?"
"...?"
zigor looked at kyran, unable to grasp the whole meaning of his answer.
in the end, the younger man only smiled and said, "it is better to experience it yourself. the portal is already stable. once i complete the adjustments, i'll show it to you."
seeing kyran's confidence and determined eyes, zigor no longer asked questions and decided to trust him. thus far, kyran had only ever helped their clan recover and strengthened them, so there was no reason to doubt him.
of course, not everyone in the blade dancer clan trusted kyran and his people.
among them was the head of the sound house.
alta and shiloh, knowing this fact, kept a close eye on her. however, they could not confront her since she showed no suspicious activities.
when kyran had nothing to do, he would meditate inside the enclosed dome. he wanted to enter the portal and meditate there. however, the amount of magic energy in his body prevented him from passing through the portal. in a way, it was one of the restrictions of the portals to ensure no low-level creature would enter accidentally.
three days later, inside the ship's infirmary, true void, who had been unconscious for a long time, finally opened his eyes.
