Chapter 30 The Unobstructed Assembly
Chapter 30 The Unobstructed Assembly
Rajan left, puzzled. It was the time when the moonlight shone down, and a Vaishya walked leisurely over from the side hall corridor.
He had a calm demeanor, a peaceful face, and proper manners; he was clearly from a wealthy family.
Approaching Vijay, he bowed first and spoke respectfully, "Honorable Master Vijay!"
"My mistress, Mira, would like to invite you for a chat."
"Shiva above, good friend," Vijay stood up, his height and imposing presence overwhelming, "I am not your master!"
As Vijay spoke, he nodded to Maya, who immediately understood that he meant she didn't need to worry.
I was just about to ask him to lead the way when I suddenly remembered that this might be my home...
Shaking his head helplessly, Vijay walked towards the guest room.
Regardless of how he treats her, Mira was personally arranged by Roshman, and he would have to talk to her a few times sooner or later.
As soon as Vijay entered the guest room, his eyes were immediately drawn to its bright and colorful decorations. The guest room, which had been dark and deserted for years, was now so beautifully decorated that Vijay almost didn't recognize it.
Mira was already seated in the guest seat, leaving the head seat untouched.
Vijay didn't stand on ceremony. He strode over and plopped down, giving Mira no friendly look whatsoever.
Mira didn't seem to mind at all. She clapped her hands lightly, and the servants carried banana leaves and delicacies up one by one, placing them respectfully in front of Vijay.
These well-trained servants seemed to have truly come to regard Vijay as their master.
The atmosphere seemed less confrontational. Sensing Mira's goodwill, Vijay relaxed his tense expression slightly. "By Brahma, I have been somewhat rude today."
"Shiva's blessing, I suppose so," he said, his words tinged with a hint of mockery, but his high-arched eyebrows and rugged face gave him an air of menace. "I thought I was too ugly to be noticed by the head of the household and therefore not valued!"
To be honest, the girl was very beautiful. If judged solely on her appearance, she was at least a level above Maya, and even comparable to Devadatta, who served the Brahmins!
But Vijay wasn't some lecherous scoundrel; don't think a few smiles could make him lose his mind.
"Shiva testifies, that's not the case!" Such blunt self-deprecation made Vijay scratch his head somewhat embarrassedly, "It's just that it happened so suddenly, I was caught off guard!"
"Furthermore, it seems that unmarried men and women meeting alone does not comply with the provisions of the Manu Code!"
Vijay said it offhand, but suddenly felt that it seemed like a good excuse, since it was a real rule!
His eyes lit up immediately: "I think you should tell me the location of the bridal chamber so that I can ask a middleman to deliver the betrothal letter, and then ask the Brahmin to pray, with all the gods as witnesses. Only in this way can we live up to the noble Kshatriya Rajaman's good intentions and fulfill the sacred covenant of marriage..."
Mira smiled faintly, waiting for Vijay to finish speaking before immediately taking over, "I'm sure the patriarch knows that I, Mira, am an unconventional person, already disciplined! I believe the patriarch is no ordinary person either, and can certainly defy convention!"
Having said all that, it seems Mira is determined and won't easily change her mind.
No amount of polite talk could make a difference, so Mira changed the subject and got straight to today's topic, "Since it's an engagement arranged by Lord Roshman, I hope it can be finalized as soon as possible!"
"I propose that the wedding be held before you depart for the trade route, so that I can take charge of the household affairs as the mistress of the house and manage things at home for you."
Her personality is too strong!
Vijay was finding her arguments a bit hard to believe, but he couldn't think of any way to refuse her.
After all, if a beautiful young woman uses herself as a pawn, looks at you with wide, honest eyes, and says she wants to marry you immediately, no man could be heartless, right?
From just these few words, Vijay knew that this Mira was definitely not someone to be trifled with. Perhaps she had other trump cards besides Roshman?
Vijay fell silent; this was the only way he could think of to fight back at that moment.
"Since the head of the family is still hesitant," Mira noticed this and smiled brightly, pointing to the food on the banana leaves in front of them, "why don't we eat first and then make a decision tomorrow?"
Tomorrow? What's tomorrow? Vijay escaped unscathed with this question in mind.
The next day, before the sun was high in the sky, Vijay knew what was going to happen that day!
"Master, Master, come quick!" Bim, breathless, arrived at the training ground and found Vijay. "By Brahma!"
Vijay, looking puzzled, followed old Bim to the village entrance.
Looking out, a vast sea of people appeared in the countryside outside the village, being driven towards the village entrance by several groups of warriors.
"Shiva, please help me! So many untouchables..." Bim gasped, his mouth agape. "What are we going to do?!"
Vijay stood on the high platform and roughly estimated that there were probably no fewer than 3000 people in the crowd.
He knew perfectly well that this was the manpower he and Roshman had mentioned, but he hadn't expected Roshman to create such a large-scale operation.
Upon seeing Vijay's appearance, a warrior riding a tall horse rode towards him.
This warrior, clad in silver armor, was tall and imposing, and the chilling aura he exuded was second only to Roshman in strength that Vijay had ever seen.
"Centurion of the City Guard, Dranvila," he announced first, then looked at Vijay, "May Indra protect you, are you Mittal Vijay?"
"May Indra bless you, and may your courage always be with you!" Vijay nodded and returned the greeting: "I am Mittal Vijay!"
"These were bestowed upon you by the esteemed Lord Roshman," Delanvila said impatiently, gesturing towards the Dalits. "Lord Roshman cleared five villages to gather these; you'd better take over quickly!"
This is the real surprise!
Vijay felt a little dizzy and a little scared.
More than 3000 people, a huge, dark mass. If they swarmed in, they could easily demolish Mittal village into ruins with their bare hands.
"Master?" Bim's tentative voice came from the side.
Vijay turned his head.
Bim gave Vijay a look that seemed to say, "Should I handle this?" Vijay nodded instinctively.
Having received permission, Bim immediately jogged over to Delanvila and quietly handed her a gem.
Delanville's expression instantly softened, and he nodded repeatedly to Vijay.
Then he really did abandon the situation and left with his team of dozens of people.
Then, Bim strode confidently to the front of the crowd, facing thousands of people with his slender frame, yet his presence was in no way inferior.
Wherever he went, the Dalits there would desperately make way for him.
Before long, he arrived in the crowd and stood on a mound of earth. Then, his desperate roar reached Vijay's ears.
"You filthy, vile fools, deserving of eternal torment in the deepest hell!"
"This is Mittal Village! The territory of the esteemed Lord Mittal Vige!"
"Now, you all sit down immediately! Obey the master's orders!"
With just these few words, Vijay was surprised to see that the bustling crowd actually stopped its slight commotion and obediently sat down on the ground as Bim had instructed.
This scene, which others might take for granted, made Vijay's eyelids twitch.
Having finished calming Vijay down, Bim trotted back to his side and whispered, "Master, what should we do?"
Vijay glanced at Bim's calm demeanor, then at Dalit in front of him.
They were even more miserable than the Dalits of Mittal village; almost none of them had a complete cloth to cover their bodies, and they were all skin and bones, having to cling together tightly to avoid collapsing.
His eyes were devoid of any sparkle, as if a fly landing on his eyeball wouldn't even make him flinch.
"Bim, my old servant," Vijay said earnestly, looking at his servant, "go find some skilled cooks, put the pots on, and cook some porridge so they don't starve."
Vijay's voice wasn't loud, but it still drifted into the Dalit crowd ahead.
"Once they've eaten something and regained some strength, let Rajan lead them into the mountains to cut down trees and build houses!"
Upon hearing this, the numb Dalits raised their heads and looked blankly at Vijay high above, as if trying to confirm whether what they had just heard was true.
"My lord, you are merciful!" First came the whispers of a few individuals, then a torrent of voices, and finally, a thunderous roar that echoed through the heavens: "May Brahma protect you!"
Vijay stood on the high platform, overwhelmed by the sound.
But unlike the others who were shocked, Vijay only felt a familiar power surging in his chest.
"Follow your heart, and you will successfully please yourself."
'Add 1 talent point, 3 talent points remaining.'
Not only that, Vijay clearly felt that the "All Defense" skill on the panel had automatically increased by 2 points, and the talent tree in the second row naturally flashed before his eyes.
