Chapter 40 You've Been Targeted by a God!
She could feel the aura and the low growl, which carried a sense of oppression.
That wasn't just any ordinary pressure.
Yata thought he was strong enough.
However, after the roar, the fighting spirit within her body showed obvious signs of shrinking, and its circulation became much more sluggish.
I had this feeling last time when I faced Fiona's grandfather, the Grand Duke of the Phoenix Clan.
"Gods..."
"The true aura of divinity."
The earth suddenly trembled, and boulders tumbled down from the cliff face.
The void rippled like flowing water, and a terrifying pressure that transcended the mortal realm poured down.
The source of the roar finally broke through the thick fog and revealed its true form from the void.
It was a colossal tiger-shaped beast with a body as large as a mountain, its body wreathed in rolling purple flames. Every flicker of its flames caused the surrounding space to sizzle and twist, creating tiny spatial cracks, making it seem completely out of place in this world.
The giant beast's golden vertical eyes were icy cold, and from the moment it appeared, they were fixed on Lin Qi.
[Hint: You have been targeted by a primordial deity. Run!]
Clearly, Lin Qi had absorbed too much unclaimed faith power, which originally belonged to the black tiger deity. Lin Qi's absorption had thoroughly angered it.
It was enraged.
Buck's face turned deathly pale, and his eyes were filled with fear.
He could sense that the terrifying aura of the beast opposite him was far beyond his imagination; even a powerhouse two levels above him might not be able to withstand it.
Buck suddenly felt a little ridiculous.
They actually dared to attempt to seize the power of the gods.
This is simply not a realm that ordinary people can access.
He instinctively wanted to break free from Lynch's grasp, wanting only to escape as soon as possible—staying any longer would only mean being torn apart by that terrifying being.
While in Alexander, Lynch also sensed that something was amiss.
This horrible thing smells delicious, doesn't it?
He subconsciously licked his lips.
The other person exuded an unparalleled allure.
But looking at the overwhelming aura on the other side, Lin Qi felt that he could still resist the temptation.
Rustling.
A dense chorus of footsteps sounded, and countless purple lights emerged from the mist behind the beast.
Yata's gaze sharpened.
Hundreds and thousands of beasts and humans infected by this god appeared opposite the three.
Lynch could clearly hear the sound of Buck, the leader of the Red Wolf Mercenary Group, swallowing.
The next moment, without the slightest hesitation, Lynch released the dagger pressed against Buck's throat and turned to run.
If we stay here any longer, we'll most likely die without a burial place.
Seeing this, Buck didn't bother to pick up the long knife and followed Lynch's footsteps, trying to make a quick getaway. However, he staggered as he ran, clearly exhausted.
Hey!
The tiger spirit let out a low roar.
A strange and bloodthirsty roar echoed throughout the valley.
"No!"
Still fleeing in a sorry state, the exhausted Red Wolf Buck was instantly overwhelmed by the tide of infected. A moment later, he stood up again, his eyes still purple, and joined the army, running towards Lynch.
...
Outside Silverleaf Town.
Priest Evan, leading the forces of the Temple of Justice, walked through the light mist.
He wore a blue robe with gold trim, his face was solemn, and there was a coldness between his brows as his gaze swept over the mess in Silverleaf Town.
The low city walls were riddled with cracks, and human remains were scattered on the ground. Blood mixed with dust, and the stench was pungent. Several town guards lay dead to one side, their armor torn to shreds, their deaths gruesome.
Meanwhile, in the town center, the forces of the Temple of Order gathered the surviving townspeople together.
A familiar face appeared; it was Beren, also a priest of Xiafeng City, who seemed to be preaching something to them. A faint magical light flashed, obscuring the crowd.
"This magic array, they really went all out."
Evan chuckled softly.
He said to his deputy, "Demons are rampant, Silverleaf Town has fallen, and they're eager to take advantage of the chaos."
The deputy nodded, his tone displeased: "Your Excellency, they probably arrived a day earlier than us, so perhaps we here..."
The deputy lowered his voice.
Evan paid no attention, but turned his gaze toward the Misty Forest, where the fog continued to drift in, further reducing visibility around the town.
His tone was somewhat teasing: "No wonder Beren and the others are in such a hurry. If I were them, I would be anxious too."
The deputy looked at his superior with some surprise.
Noticing his gaze, Evan casually said, "No problem, it's a wild deity."
The deputy's eyes narrowed.
"Sir, if this is a case of divine contamination, shouldn't we escalate to a higher level...?"
Evan glanced at him and said calmly, "That person is already on their way."
"The allure of wild deities is something even we mere first-tier professionals understand; how could they not?"
"Those powerful figures in the Duchy who are stuck at the fourth tier and on their deathbeds are dreaming of a fragment of divine law to prolong their lives. Don't overthink it. Our purpose here is simply to stall for time and have some haggling with the people of Order."
Within Silverleaf Town.
The warriors of the Temple of Order had already discovered Evan and his group and immediately reported to Beren.
The two groups met at the entrance to the town, which was in complete disarray.
Beren, dressed in a white robe, his body shimmering with a pale golden light, stood coldly on the city wall, his tone condescending and hostile: "Evan, your Temple of Justice has fulfilled its responsibility to protect this place. According to the original agreement, my Temple of Order has taken over this area."
Evan stepped forward, his gaze sweeping over the townspeople's terrified faces, a hint of mockery playing on his lips: "Take it over? Priest Beren, putting aside the question of whether it's right or wrong, with all of you, if you really provoke that thing in the forest, can you hold it off?"
"Oh!"
Beren's face darkened. "That's none of your concern. We have our own methods."
He gazed at Evan's youthful face. Though outwardly calm, he was filled with disgust. As a priest of the same rank, Evan was twenty years younger than him and it was a certainty that he would surpass him in the future. Moreover, Evan was erratic and had an eccentric personality, the kind of person that Order despised the most.
Meanwhile, Evan was also making plans in his mind.
The guys at the Temple of Order couldn't possibly be unaware of the gods' power, but judging from Beren's reaction, could they really have a way to deal with it?
"means?"
Evan deliberately raised an eyebrow: "You don't even know what it looks like or how strong it is, so what means do you have? I think you just want to seize Silverleaf Town to satisfy your own ambitions."
Beren gave a disdainful smile: "Evan, I advise you, if you know what's good for you, you'd better leave now!"
Evan stood firm, raising his hand to signal his men to be on guard: "Silverleaf Town is not the private property of your Temple of Order, nor are the gods yours to monopolize."
"If you want to fight, I'm ready to fight you to the end."
The two groups of people instantly faced off.
Warriors from the Temple of Order gripped their longswords, while priests from the Temple of Justice raised their staffs. The light of their battle magic and divine spells clashed, and the air thickened with tension.
The surviving townspeople and adventurers watched the commotion without daring to breathe.
Beren stared intently at Evan, their expressions growing increasingly cold. The warriors and mages on both sides prepared their skills, gathering but not unleashing them, waiting for the high priest to give the order to blast the enemy to pieces.
But in an instant, Evan suddenly put on a smile.
"Your Excellency Beren, this is no fun. Why don't you let us in to rest for half a day? We can discuss the rest when the higher-ups arrive."
Beren snorted coldly and turned to leave.
"Haha, that's right."
Evan laughed and took a few steps forward. Under the watchful eyes of the Temple of Order warriors, he made a gesture as if to put his arm around Beren's shoulder.
However, just as his hand was about to touch Beren's priestly insignia, Evan stopped, his whole body stiffening. Beren, like him, also stopped in his tracks.
The others were somewhat at a loss.
Evan turned around, his expression changed drastically, and he looked towards the direction of the Misty Forest.
"Damn it, no way?"
