Chapter 44 Old Enemy
Chapter 44 Old Enemy
"Let's go, Petros."
"Leave on your own, I think you know the way," Petros said enthusiastically to Isaac.
However, Tenor gave him a fierce look, which made him panic. "I want to see the rest of the academy."
Of course, what he was really worried about was that if the kid stayed here, he would fall for the trick and become a puppet of the cult.
If this guy doesn't know what's good for him, then it's not unreasonable for him to just stand by and watch him die.
"Fine," Petros said reluctantly as he followed.
It wasn't until he was almost out of university that Ternor became wary and thought, "Don't go looking for your advisor and classmates unless it's absolutely necessary."
Petros opened his mouth slowly, his eyes clear, "Huh?"
Well, Tenor breathed a sigh of relief and didn't explain further, lest this fool be tricked into revealing information.
Life and death are predestined; he has no say in other people's lives.
As I approached the side gate via the path, a faint scent of musk wafted through a deserted garden, lingering on the tip of Ternor's pen.
He suddenly came to his senses, turned his head and saw that Petros was already infatuated.
He underwent a decisive and swift transformation.
The enormous silhouettes of reptilian predators have replaced the human figures.
"Come out, demon." Tenor shoved Petros aside.
"Don't you recognize me? Cold-blooded creature? You smashed up my party and caused me to be banished." A pair of demonic eyes suddenly peeked out from the bushes on the right side of the road, and the Slaanesh appeared like a ghost among the trees.
"'Masked Man'? I thought you were dead. How did you get back?" Tenor slowly approached, the demon poised to strike.
"How was Reginald's magic? I heard you screaming a lot back then."
If you're interested, I can tell you that your Pleasure Association has become a pariah.
The lizardman's dangerous offensive posture only elicited a chuckle from the demon, "The organization of mortals is none of my concern."
I am immortal, and when an insect tries to borrow my power, I naturally "return".
You can call me Cecily, you cold-blooded creature. My new "master" has ordered me to kill you.
"I don't have time to memorize a demon's name!" Tenor lunged forward, but Cesis dodged him with ghostly speed.
It is much more powerful than it was in the underground of the Amethyst Wine House back then, after all, it was just possessing someone else's body back then, but now it is its true form.
A whooshing sound came from behind. Tenor instinctively swept its tail, forcing the demon that had moved behind it to move away. However, its waist folded up as if it had no bones, avoiding the counterattack and successfully cutting the bladed demon hand into Tenor's flesh.
The thick scales seemed to be nothing at all.
As Tenor turned to parry with the edge of his shield, it had already withdrawn its attack and appeared ten meters away in two swift steps.
The wound bled profusely, but to the lizardman it was merely a scratch.
"You're much stronger than you were before," Cecis said with amusement.
Tenor ignored it, adjusted his posture, and assumed a defensive stance. This banshee was much more powerful than the Emerald Order's "messenger of the gods," and was probably a mid-level demon.
If the fight continued normally, he would most likely be disemboweled—his speed was too slow, making it almost impossible for him to injure the banshee.
But the demon was unaware of his new item. Once the banshee got used to his normal attack rhythm and the 'Swift Pendant' was activated, Tenor was confident he could kill the demon instantly.
He even dared to expose a weakness, allowing the demon to try and kill him with a single blow—but that was impossible, as he could activate the Emerald Amulet at any time.
If the demon dares to try to seriously injure him, he is willing to trade injury for life—with the jade amulet, he has no chance of dying from serious injury.
With the mark of Kotegor, he was fully capable of killing the demon in one blow.
Moreover, if they fight here, any mage passing by will notice, which is extremely disadvantageous to the demons. The demons should be the ones who are worried!
In Tenor's eyes, the demon's figure suddenly disappeared. He decisively took a step back, and using his hunting senses to confirm that the demon had appeared to his left rear, he turned around and swung his club at it.
The demon effortlessly dodged, muttering, "To be honest, I don't want to kill you. I don't like the way that idiot bosses me around."
Seizing on Tenor's obvious mistake, the demon's eyes flashed with purple light, and the lizardman froze instantly, falling into a state of paralysis.
It revealed a look of anticipation, with a cruel fervor, before its claws pierced the lizardman's right arm.
Just as it was about to tear half of the lizardman's body apart, Tenor, who had broken free from the anesthesia in excruciating pain, activated the 'Swift Pendant' and slammed the shield at the demon with incredible speed.
The moon shield, carrying a wave of heat, hurtled towards them at breakneck speed, but the demon grinned wickedly, as if everything was under control. "Come on! I knew you'd do this!"
Had he been seen through? Tenor became wary, his attacks becoming even more ruthless while remaining vigilant against the demon's underhanded tricks.
Then the demon was slammed to the ground by the Moon Shield like a fly, initially with a short, high-pitched tearing sound, as if its entire lungs were being ripped out of its throat.
But then, the sound wave suddenly collapsed from a sharp peak into a broad, continuous valley, with an almost intoxicating slurring, the final note lingering like a satisfied sigh in the night wind.
Tenor felt uneasy, looking at the smoky, dissipating mass of flesh on the ground, constantly being scorched by the power of the flames, wondering what the demon was after.
Since it saw through Ternor's backup plan, why did it still fall for it?
Is it a pervert who just wants the satisfaction of getting hit one last time?
"Ah, I must tell you, Khorne's lackeys are up to something big in the city. Their stronghold is in the sewers, and my 'master,' the Evoker Isaac, is cooperating with them." The demon used its last strength to betray them, as if it hadn't betrayed its own people. Instead, it was smug, as if it had accomplished something great.
Tenor crushed its head, activated the Emerald Amulet, and after his wounds healed rapidly, he was freed from the mutation.
The musky scent quickly dissipated, and the hallucination subsided.
Petros, the law student whose face was bruised and swollen from Ternor's shove, slowly got up, staring blankly at the pile of flesh on the ground. "What's that?"
"A demon." Before Tenor could answer, the law student had already seen it clearly and almost screamed.
"How...how could a demon appear on a university?"
Tenor looked at Petros like he was an idiot, and the law student realized he had asked a stupid question.
He snapped out of his shock and saw Tenor turn and walk forward. He quickly got up, moved closer, and wished he could grab Tenor's leg and be dragged forward.
"I see! The advisor has a problem? Is that it? No, Isaac has a problem too!"
"Genius." Ternor's slightly sarcastic tone only made Petross smug, failing to appreciate the compliment.
"It's alright, I just usually get high scores on exams." He then asked curiously, "Sir Tenor... how did you defeat the demon?"
Surely Tenor couldn't say that after his manipulation, the demon walked right into his trap and deliberately died at his hands because he wanted the force of his blow, could he?
That's not fighting, that's an insult to fighting, it only deserves to appear in the same paragraph as "fighting with a woman in bed".
Ternor vaguely said, "Killing it will eliminate it."
This seemingly pointless remark took on a different meaning in Petros's ears. He couldn't help but guess that Tenor was a ruthless and taciturn master, whose cool response was evident in his words.
"Don't touch me! I don't like men." Tenor almost pushed Petros away.
Petros then realized that he had unconsciously pressed too close because of fear.
"Sorry, I don't like men either."
"I know you like Julia Dionysus." Tenor's words made the law student blush, and she quickly protested, "No way!"
"No need to explain, I know that male humans your age are in their estrus cycle," Tenor teased the young man who looked to be 15 or 16 years old.
"How much longer are you going to keep going? Don't students at the University of Laghetti have classes?"
"Well, I paid for my university education myself. If I weren't pursuing a civil service job, I'd have plenty of time," Petros said, his voice trembling with fear. "And! I can't stay here any longer. Wherever you go, take me with you! I know the law and have some swordsmanship skills. I promise I won't be a burden!"
"It's only going to get more dangerous from here on out." Ternor ruthlessly abandoned the law student.
Because he wants to recruit dwarves to start a raid.
