Chapter 17 Disconnection
Chapter 17 Disconnection
Yu Zhen glanced at Wei Hongsi, then looked away and nodded. He then looked back at Wei Hongsi and asked, "Oh, you are...?"
Wei Hongbo said, "He's my brother."
Yu Zhenyi started arguing with Wu Wenjun as soon as he came in, and then he lowered his head and ate his rice without any introductions between them.
Wei Hongsi smiled and said, "Hello, Yu Zhi, I am Wei Hongsi."
Yu Zhen smiled and said, "It's been several years since I last saw you, you've changed quite a bit. You two brothers, one scholar and one warrior, are really something."
Wei Hongsi smiled and nodded. He had studied in Yuecheng for seven years and occasionally visited his brother's workplace, but he didn't remember ever seeing this Captain Yu. The other man had probably seen him from afar, which was why he only recognized him now.
"So you know our Engineer Wei." Wu Wenjun said, glancing at the Wei brothers again. One was muscular and rugged, while the other was fair-skinned and handsome. But upon closer inspection, the two had a seven or eight-point resemblance in their features.
"Yes, I know him," Yu Zhen said with some emotion. "Little Wei is quite something. Back in college, he helped us catch a wanted criminal. That bastard was disguised, but he saw right through him."
Wei Hongsi still remembered the wanted criminal Yu Zhen mentioned. Suddenly, he realized that his ability to see through people's true ages seemed to have started around that time.
He remembered that the wanted criminal was in his early thirties, but he had disguised himself as someone in his forties with remarkable skill. Yet, it seemed very strange to him, just like when he saw Li Yunxiang that afternoon. No wonder he felt a sense of both familiarity and strangeness then.
After finishing his remarks, Yu Zhen got back to the main point: "Old Wu, your video only proves that this woman has a problem, but apart from having an emotional entanglement with your boss Meng, she hasn't admitted to anything. At most, it can be considered indirect evidence."
Wu Wenjun asked, "So this case can't be investigated at all?"
"No, that's not it," Yu Zhen said thoughtfully. "It's just that we need to be mindful of the method and strategy. Wei Da, what are your thoughts?"
"I think we need to keep up with the leads from GG Company. It might be possible to avoid suspicion when Mr. Wu comes to us, but Li Yunxiang's death in the hospital is a very clear signal. At the very least, we need to find out who the key person is, and then find an opportunity to contact them alone. Ideally, we should create conditions to completely isolate this person from the outside world."
After listening to Yu Zhen's analysis, Wei Hongbo couldn't help but start considering the worst-case scenario.
Yu Zhen nodded in agreement, indicating his approval of the idea.
"Also, the routine investigation into Li Yunxiang still needs to be conducted. Even if she was used as a pawn, she should have her own motives, so we can investigate that aspect. Mr. Wu, what's her family situation?"
"She is not from Yuecheng, so she is considered a migrant worker. She had a brief marriage, is divorced, and has no children."
As Wu Wenjun spoke, he opened a file bag, took out several pages of printed paper bound together, and handed them to Wei Hongbo.
This document contains all the information Wu Wenjun was able to gather about Li Yunxiang, including the circumstances of her death.
As soon as the ambulance arrived at the hospital, Li Yunxiang, who was still unconscious, suffered another episode of generalized tonic-clonic seizures. Although the medical staff immediately attempted resuscitation, it was to no avail, and she was ultimately pronounced clinically dead due to irreversible cardiac arrest.
Qiao Yi was present throughout Li Yunxiang's journey to the hospital. He described the situation in detail when reporting to Ji Yongsheng. Ji Yongsheng didn't mention it at the meeting, feeling it unnecessary for everyone to know, but Wu Wenjun didn't omit it when preparing the materials.
Wei Hongsi was sitting to the side and behind his older brother. He also peeked at the scene a few times and became increasingly suspicious of Li Yunxiang's cause of death.
After reviewing the materials in his hand, Wei Hongbo said, "Mr. Wu, please communicate with the amusement park. I want to get some information from them as soon as possible."
Wu Wenjun took out his phone and called Jiang Kai, said a few words, and then asked Wei Hongbo, "They're in a teahouse right now, not too far from here. Shall we go over there?"
Wei Hongbo looked at Yu Zhen, who said, "Fine, I'll do whatever you say today."
The group packed their things and were about to leave when Zhang Shengyong's phone rang.
Seeing Zhang Shengyong's increasingly serious expression as he listened to the phone call, Wei Hongbo had a bad feeling.
After finishing the call, Zhang Shengyong said, "A fatal fall has occurred at Yunhai Building. Due to abnormalities in the body itself and the horizontal position of the fall, it has been reported to our criminal investigation team. The deceased has now been identified as a creative designer at Zihu Media."
After Zhang Shengyong finished speaking, everyone's eyes fell on Wu Wenjun.
Wu Wenjun quickly took out his phone and called Jiang Kai: "President Jiang, could you ask the people at the amusement park which company did Plan B? It's... Purple Fox Media! And the person in charge? His surname is Peng? Oh, Peng as in fluffy, his name is Peng Jun."
As he spoke, he looked at Zhang Shengyong, and seeing the other man nod, his heart sank, and his last glimmer of hope vanished.
Everyone looked at Yu Zhen again.
"Don't look at me anymore, let's go to the station." Yu Zhen's face was so dark it looked like ink could drip from it. "Old Wu, let the people from the amusement park come over too. There's no need to hide anything anymore."
After leaving the restaurant, Zhang Shengyong drove to the Yunhai Building. The original crime scene was still preserved there, and he wanted to examine it carefully, hoping to find some useful clues.
The other five people got into Wu Wenjun's car and headed to the police station together. Wu Wenjun asked Yu Zhen to sit in the front passenger seat, while he and the Wei brothers sat in the back, leaving Wei Hongsi sandwiched in between. Fortunately, none of them were overweight, and the rear space in this B-class car was relatively spacious.
On the way, Wu Wenjun called Ji Yongsheng to give a brief update on the latest developments.
Since the investigation had not yet begun and did not involve confidentiality, Yu Zhen did not interfere.
After Wu Wenjun finished his call, Yu Zhen contacted the brigade command center and requested that the investigation progress of Peng Jun's death be shared with him and Wei Hongbo.
Before long, the two received the relevant information on their police communication devices. Wei Hongsi took the opportunity to peek at his older brother's screen.
According to the initial investigation by police officers at the scene, the deceased, Peng Jun, was a 31-year-old male who fell to his death at 6:07 p.m.
Peng Jun had just finished dinner and then went to the 14th-floor terrace to smoke, during which time he greeted several colleagues. After his colleagues returned to the building, he remained on the terrace.
Later, people inside the building heard screams and commotion downstairs and discovered that a man had fallen from the building. After identification by staff of Purple Fox Media, the fallen man was confirmed to be Peng Jun.
Wei Hongbo silently calculated the time: 6:07. They had just finished eating and were listening to Wu Wenjun recount the situation. Captain Yu had not yet made Murphy's prediction.
