Chapter 317 Past Illusions
Chapter 317 Past Illusions
"Of course, you're my older sister. I can tell what kind of person you are just by looking at you. You're always willing to risk your own safety to help others, always worry about others, and often make others worry too."
Han Keyun paused for a moment, then couldn't help but look Han Kexin up and down more closely, saying, "You really look like my sister. I do have a sister, but she's only eight years old this year. The way you two talk is so similar."
"Your younger sister must be very naughty," Han Kexin asked.
"She's not that naughty," Han Keyun said with a smile, as if a smile couldn't help but appear in her eyes whenever she thought of her younger sister. "She just sometimes likes to play the adult and often worries about me."
Han Kexin's eyes welled up again, and she quickly turned her head away to avoid letting the other person see her losing control of her emotions again.
Under Han Keyun's treatment, the villagers' abscesses on their arms were quickly healed. Qin Xiaochuan then discovered that every villager here was in a similar situation, with a boil the size of the bottom of a bowl on their arm or calf.
Filled with doubt, Qin Xiaochuan asked Han Keyun, "Their illnesses seem to be quite similar. What's going on? Have they always had these pustules on their bodies?"
Han Keyun looked up at Qin Xiaochuan and said, "You observed very carefully, but the sores on their bodies actually appeared suddenly recently, so they were not caused by their past lifestyle habits."
"So now do you know why they are sick?" Qin Xiaochuan asked that question because he suspected that the villagers' illness was caused by the village's bad living habits. He didn't expect Han Keyun to see through his guess at a glance. This woman seems to have the ability to see into people's hearts.
Han Keyun shook her head and said, "The specific reason is still unclear. According to the villagers, there has been a lot of dense fog in the mountains east of the village recently for some unknown reason. These sick villagers had all been to that mountain before they fell ill. I think the reason they fell ill is related to that mountain."
Qin Xiaochuan and Han Kexin exchanged a glance upon hearing this, immediately realizing that something that shouldn't have appeared in that mountain must have suddenly appeared. So Han Kexin said to Han Keyun, "Sister, we just arrived at this village and want to wander around the area first. We'll come back to find you later."
While treating another villager's abscess on his calf, Han Keyun said, "Okay, I understand. Remember to come back around lunchtime."
"Of course, I've been wanting to try my sister's cooking," Han Kexin said with a slight smile. This made Qin Xiaochuan suddenly realize that since meeting Han Keyun, Han Kexin had become a girl who loved to laugh.
After saying goodbye to Han Keyun, the two headed east of the village. After asking a villager for the exact location of the strange mountain range that Han Keyun had mentioned, they promptly headed there.
Qin Xiaochuan followed behind Han Kexin, watching her hurried steps, and asked, "What kind of world do you think we are in right now?"
"What do you mean?" Han Kexin asked without turning her head.
"I know you're excited to see your sister, but before deciding on any action, shouldn't we first understand our own situation? That's what you told me to do."
Han Kexin suddenly stopped and turned to look at him, asking, "Then tell me, what is our current situation?"
"This... I don't understand it either," Qin Xiaochuan stammered, engrossed in Chapter 318, "Past Illusions." "I only know that we are neither in a dream nor an illusion; I've never encountered anything like this before."
"That settles it then. If we can't figure it out, we should investigate. And the truth is often hidden in the most mysterious places," Han Kexin said arrogantly.
Qin Xiaochuan said dismissively, "You mean that mountain range? But I always feel that it has nothing to do with the essence of this world."
"Do you have any other ideas?"
"No," Qin Xiaochuan answered honestly.
"Enough with the nonsense, let's get going. I need to come back for lunch after I've finished dealing with things over there." Han Kexin said, and then strode forward again.
Qin Xiaochuan glanced at her retreating figure and said, "I think you just want to help your sister."
Han Kexin walked ahead without answering him, but instead quickened her pace.
"Hmph, what an arrogant woman," Qin Xiaochuan couldn't help but mutter to himself.
The two soon arrived at the small river at the village entrance. Just as they crossed the small stone bridge, a white light flashed before their eyes. When they came to their senses, they found themselves back in Qin Xiaochuan's mental world.
"What's going on?" Han Kexin asked in surprise. Qin Xiaochuan didn't answer her question because he was also astonished.
Stepping back into that long corridor, the two had long forgotten which door they had opened the first time, so Han Kexin simply opened a door at random.
After the flash of white light, the two found themselves in a small alley, in a completely different world. Judging from the surrounding environment, it couldn't be the countryside, but a city, though it was still the city of more than twenty years ago.
Han Kexin hesitated as she walked out of the alley. When she turned around and looked at the scene on the side, she froze on the spot.
Qin Xiaochuan followed her gaze and saw a snack street that had been around for over 20 years. The street was bustling with people, the shouts of vendors were constant, and the aroma of food could be smelled from afar. The whole street was filled with a strong sense of everyday life.
Seeing Han Kexin standing there in a daze, Qin Xiaochuan couldn't help but ask curiously, "What's wrong?"
"This is where I lived when I was a child. I used to love running to this snack street to play. Some vendors would give me some delicious treats because they thought I was cute," Han Kexin murmured.
"That's even stranger. Why would this be the place where you lived as a child? Is it because you opened the door this time?" Qin Xiaochuan asked, puzzled.
"It's less about the place where I lived as a child and more about the place where my sister lived, because I lived with my sister all my childhood." Han Kexin's face showed a complex expression, a mixture of bitterness and reminiscence.
"What do you mean? Have you already figured something out?" Qin Xiaochuan asked.
"Yes, I think I understand what this world is all about now. This is his memory. He hid all his memories of his sister here, and then he would often sneak in by himself. No wonder he used to stay in the meditation room all day long without coming out," Han Kexin said with a wry smile.
"You mean the previous Blood Witch King?" Qin Xiaochuan suddenly realized, "That means this world was created by him, which is why it's called 'Past Illusions'."
