Chapter 9 Flames Rise
Chapter 9 Flames Rise
The path to the underground cell is a spiral passage.
The route passes through residential areas, pharmacy rooms, and training grounds.
"I want to eliminate as many enemy troops as possible before causing a disturbance."
Kane made up his mind and began to execute the plan step by step.
When he encountered a black-robed cultist bowing respectfully, he would pretend to be indifferent and brush past him, then take advantage of the other person's unpreparedness to slit their neck with a dagger.
When he encounters multiple opponents, he uses the magician's hand to control a dagger and launch a sneak attack, remaining completely silent throughout.
After a few quick clean-ups, he soon arrived at the residential area.
Don't do it again and again.
He quietly pushed open the first door, where two believers were fast asleep.
The mage silently raised the dagger and thrust it in with precision.
Two muffled groans came from under the covers, blood splattered on the sheets, and then silence fell.
Kane silently closed the door and turned to walk to the next room.
Open the door, kill, close the door—the actions are mechanical and decisive.
"Since you have chosen to worship demons, then I will send you away from the material plane."
The original owner clearly remembered that in order to join the demon cult, one had to kill a kind life with one's own hands.
Therefore, he acted without hesitation.
Just then, a sudden gust of wind rose behind them!
A dagger, gleaming with a cold light, slashed diagonally towards us!
Kane suddenly turned to the side, and a short knife grazed his back.
With a sudden thought, the dagger hidden in the blanket flew back and shot towards the attacker.
However, he was knocked away by the opponent's attack and embedded in the wall with a clang.
Kane ducked to avoid the incoming projectiles and created distance.
Stand firm and look closely.
The person before me had a gaunt face, but a pair of eyes that revealed a familiar shrewdness.
It was the silent killer, Laun, who taught him dagger proficiency after he transmigrated.
Raun looked at the bloodstains on Kane's robe, his eyes filled with complex emotions:
Why?
Kane grinned, a hint of madness in his smile:
"I didn't have a choice before, but now I want to be a good person."
"A good person?"
Laun frowned, his face full of disbelief.
"The sins you have committed are beyond redemption."
"you're right."
Kane's smile faded.
"So I need a pledge of allegiance."
He looked at the lean, wiry old man in front of him, and his tone softened:
"Laun, if you leave now, I won't kill you."
Laun looked at him like he was a madman, but there were indeed quite a few madmen in this sect.
He sighed.
"Give up, I will hand you over to my mentor... The Stigmata Ritual will continue."
Before he finished speaking, he stomped his foot on the floor and his figure approached like a ghost!
Kane parried with his dagger, taking a step back amidst sparks, and hurriedly swung his hand back to block another slash.
During the exchange, his mind raced:
"Laun's Silent Assassin level is higher than mine, and his main attribute is Agility. In the time it takes him to make three attacks, I can only make two."
"However, I'm not only good with knives."
With a thought, a vial of medicine suddenly shot out from his sleeve, heading straight for Lauen's face!
Laun chopped it into pieces, held his breath, but still managed to smell a faint odor.
"Hahaha!"
Kane laughed loudly and seized the opportunity to pounce on him.
Seeing that he rushed towards the area where the potion fragments were scattered without any regard for his safety, Laun also stopped hesitating and swung his sword to meet him.
Inside the cramped bedroom, the sounds of metal clanging erupted in rapid succession.
Two daggers clashed and flew in the darkness, blood splattering onto the walls and the ground from time to time.
Kane soon sustained several wounds of varying depths.
Laun also suffered some injuries, especially two deep cuts on his legs that exposed the bone.
Looking at the two other throwing daggers constantly harassing him from above and behind, Lauen grew increasingly alarmed as the fight progressed.
"What kind of spell is this? A mage's hand?"
Just then, his expression suddenly changed, and he felt a sharp numbness and cramping pain in his abdomen.
"poison?"
"That's right."
Kane was panting.
"What you shattered was Shawn's Dark Potion, which has poisoning and paralyzing effects, but... I took the antidote beforehand."
He opened his arms:
"Laun, surrender. I won't kill you. This is the last time."
Laun remained silent, then swung his dagger forward once more.
Two daggers shot towards Lauen's vital points in mid-air, but he managed to deflect them with difficulty.
Kane was about to block his frontal slash.
Suddenly, Raun changed his stance, deliberately bringing his neck to meet Kane's dagger.
"Pfft—"
Blood splattered.
Laun fell to his knees, a fatal wound slashed across his neck by a dagger.
Kane's pupils contracted, he dispelled the mage's hand, and rushed forward.
"Why?!"
The old man clutched his bleeding throat, his voice hoarse and broken:
"For no reason... all the Silent Killers have made a pact with the Patriarch..."
Those who disobey will have their souls transformed into worms in the abyss…
He pushed away the medicine Kane was trying to apply and said with difficulty, word by word:
"To die at the hands of my disciple, perhaps, is my destiny..."
"Leave... Your identity is a problem... Once you're out, you can go to the Dark Brotherhood..."
As soon as he finished speaking, he released his grip, and blood gushed out.
The next second, he fell heavily to the ground, and blood quickly soaked the carpet beneath him.
Gazing at the rapidly dying body, a flicker of emotion crossed Kane's eyes for the first time, amidst his usual murderous intent.
He stood still for a moment.
Pour candle wax onto the corpse and light it with a torch.
"Don't worry, Laun."
Soon, the entire sect's stronghold will come to join you.
Flames rose up and began to spread.
Kane quickly changed into a clean black robe to cover the bloodstains.
At this moment, he looked no different from any ordinary believer.
"We've dealt with twenty-one... The rest are too scattered; saving lives is the priority."
……
Deep within the underground prison, it was dark and damp.
Shar was confined in a narrow wooden cage, her body curled up in a ball.
In another cage in the distance, a black-robed cultist who had erred was imprisoned. Just days ago, he was panting in terror, but now he was a cold corpse.
"...Do not fear death, Shar, you are the lamplighter, be the light before darkness falls..."
"Death is not the end; you will eventually return to the divine realm... even if miracles no longer occur..."
But the thought of the Patriarch's imminent arrival still made her body tremble uncontrollably.
She wasn't afraid of death, but she was afraid of being transformed into a mindless demonic puppet.
Suddenly, a distant commotion arose, which quickly subsided into silence.
The sound of footsteps grew louder as they approached.
She looked up and saw the firelight gradually brightening, and a shadow stretching out from the other end of the passage.
A man carrying a torch appeared in front of the prison gate, dressed in a black robe and with his face covered by a mask.
But those eyes were all too familiar to her.
"Finally, this moment has arrived..."
A sudden sense of relief washed over her, but a mocking sneer forced onto her face:
"Come on, kill me."
The next second, she saw a dagger float up out of thin air and fly towards her with a whoosh.
"Mage's Hand? He actually learned that skill!"
Shar closed her eyes, preparing to face the end.
But the expected pain did not come; instead, with a clang, the lock on the cage door was chopped open.
Then, a black robe and a small bottle of potion were thrown into her arms.
She opened her eyes in astonishment, almost wondering if this "son of the devil" had gone mad—
Until Kane's deep and clear voice rang out:
"Quickly change your clothes, we need to get out of here... Lord Lantern Bearer."
