Chapter 11 The Savage Chiefs
Chapter 11 The Savage Chiefs
When Nemo appeared, a group of Thern warriors were blocking the group just a few dozen yards from the ceremony site.
As the saying goes, "When the tiger is away, the monkey is king."
At this time, the most prestigious warriors were buried in the ground, and the recently rising "Star Shield" became the backbone of the Theon warriors.
Although he was young, his willingness to follow Stie proved his bravery. He was also bestowed with a divine artifact by the legendary Star Child. Many people have seen the heavy shield wrapped in silk-like fabric and imprinted with mysterious blessing runes.
Nemo stepped forward with his shield raised, and the warriors of Thane parted to make way for him.
"Mans, we are currently holding a ceremony in Magna, and you are not welcome here for the time being, especially the giants."
Mans, on the other side, wore an expression that was a mixture of a smile and distress. At that moment, the man clad in bone helmet armor mocked, "..."
"Have all of Thane's men died with Stie? How could they let a mere brat speak to the great King Beyond the Great Wall?"
The short, stocky man with a gray beard started shouting:
"I told you we shouldn't have let Mag follow. If he had stepped into the pit they buried people in, the new Magna might never have been able to climb out."
The man with teary eyes stared at Nemo's shield, muttering to himself, "The Weeper wanted that white shield; it'll be perfect to match my scythe."
Just as a conflict seemed imminent, Mans simply sighed, and everyone fell silent, even the notoriously fierce Theon.
"I am saddened by Stie's death."
He said calmly:
"I have no ill intentions in coming here. I just want to confirm whether you will still fight alongside other clans as you did when Stie was alive."
"He'll tell you when he gets the new Magna."
Nemo, young and fearless, had never been one to back down from Mance, so he stubbornly retorted.
"Ha! That brat Thane's got a bit too much brat knowledge. Let me teach him a lesson."
The short, stocky man seemed to respect Mans and immediately drew his sword, but Mans stopped him.
His eyes scanned the crowd until he spotted Lynn, then stared intently at her, causing the people standing in front of Lynn to instinctively move aside.
"Lynn, the 'Star Child,' your name will be known like the wind among the free people."
Lynn wasn't wearing a helmet at that moment, revealing a face with exotic features, which drew everyone's attention. His armor-like spacesuit was incredibly sophisticated, making the group of oddly shaped free people look like a bunch of beggars.
"He looks like a delicate-skinned nobleman from the south."
The weeping man licked his lips and said maliciously:
"Let me strip off his armor and see how he killed the White Walkers... He doesn't even have a decent dagger, I bet he's just bragging. Tormund, looks like your nickname 'King of Bragging' is going to be given away."
The short, stocky man laughed loudly, while Nemo instantly drew his thick bronze sword from his waist. The other Thane men were not to be outdone, and in an instant, spears, axes, and machetes were raised like a forest.
They didn't utter any meaningless roars or howls; their faces only held a silent ferocity. Those familiar with Thane understood that this was a sign that a fight to the death was about to begin.
The giant sensed a threat and made an uneasy gurgling sound, even causing a look of surprise to appear on Mans's usually expressionless face.
He took a harp from his back, played a few notes as if no one else was around, and then said:
"It seems the rumors are true; you did indeed kill a White Walker. So... do you really have a dragon?"
Lynn watched the situation with great interest, thinking that this Mans did indeed have an unusual temperament, no wonder he could gather free-spirited savages under his command.
He took a few steps forward and stood beside Nemo, and the Thane instinctively lowered his weapon.
Whether it's true or not, you'll know at a glance.
Lynn smiled, pointed towards his tent, and said:
"It's a pity that the White Walker's corpse melts away, otherwise I could have brought back a head and taught this always-crying 'man' a lesson."
Lynn broke down the ancient word "weeper" into two parts, instantly transforming the originally fierce title into a symbol of weakness.
Nemo led the laughter, and the Thane warriors, who had witnessed the death of the White Walkers, also joined in the mockery. The weeping man's face suddenly turned extremely gloomy.
Mans made no comment, neither responding to Lynn's invitation nor seeming to intend to turn away.
Lynn probably guessed what he was thinking, so she took the initiative to speak:
"The Thane understand the danger of the White Walkers better than any free man. The Wall is the only way out. When New Magna rises from the earth, it will give you a satisfactory answer."
No one refuted this.
Mans gave Lynn a very deep look.
"That would be best."
He made no attempt to hide his inner thoughts:
"The Thane warriors are the best-equipped, most disciplined, and strongest team. Without you, the Great Wall will be very difficult to take."
In his words, he attributed Lynn to the Thane people.
"Lynn Morningstar, the 'Child of the Stars,' or the 'Dragon Tamer,' the 'White Walker Slayer,' or whatever other title you may have, even the White King, you will have a place in my camp. This is a promise from the King of the Frontier."
After Mance finished speaking, he left with his men. As the giants slowly turned around, Nemo pointed to one of them, who had gray and white hair, and said:
"That is Mag Maz Tundo Dor Wig, meaning 'Strong Mag,' the leader of the giants. They have no king, just like the mammoths, the snow bears, and the whales of the Gray Sea."
Lynn was deeply impressed by the stench emanating from the giant, and at this moment he couldn't help but feel a little nauseous.
If I were their king, I would surely force them to bathe twice a day.
Thinking this, he returned to his tent amidst the awe-inspiring gazes of the Thane people. According to Nemo later, he was currently the only one who could rival Mans in language and whose imposing presence was equally impressive.
This is the benefit of being cultured.
After Mans left, Magna's ceremony continued.
The grand bonfire burned day and night, and the men and women of the tribe took turns dancing a frenzied war dance, while the elders led the children in prayers to an unnamed god.
The noise kept Lynn awake all night.
He naturally hoped that Kasa would win the election, but no one can predict such things; perhaps in a few days, only three cold corpses would be dug up.
As dawn broke, Lynn saw a corner of the tent being lifted, and two figures crawled in one after the other.
He was picking through a pile of smelly fur clothes that Nemo had brought the night before.
While spacesuits offer unparalleled warmth and serve as a symbol of status, their drawbacks include limited mobility and difficulty in putting them on and taking them off.
Lynn always suffers greatly when dealing with personal hygiene issues, so preparing a set of everyday clothes for herself has become a top priority.
However, Lynn, being a modern person, was somewhat of a germaphobe. He had been frowning at the pile of fur clothes that emitted a strong smell for a long time, unable to make up his mind.
The unexpected visitor rescued him from his dilemma. Lynn looked up and saw that it was the craftswoman Kuna.
She held a newly decorated Valyrian steel sword in her hands, and behind her followed a person completely wrapped in a cloak. The two were of similar build and wore similar clothing.
