Chapter 24: Undermining the Foundation?
Chapter 24: Undermining the Foundation?
The next morning.
A gentle breeze caressed my face, the curtains swayed slightly, and a pale golden light appeared on the horizon.
Su Ye slowly awoke.
Last night, he completed his second full breathing exercise, with six strands of spiritual energy entering his body simultaneously. Although the exhilarating feeling of spiritual energy flowing into his flesh and blood was intoxicating, the price was equally obvious: his mental energy was greatly depleted. After finishing the exercise, he almost fell asleep immediately.
However, this sleep was extremely comfortable.
He felt a sense of relaxation from the inside out, as if every nerve and every muscle had been soaked in warm water, feeling light and clear, with an indescribable sense of ease even in the gaps between his bones.
Su Ye sat up and first quietly assessed his physical condition.
Full of energy.
A clear mind.
Deep within his left waist, the water-element golden core remained undisturbed, like a spring, constantly oozing a cool, refreshing sensation that nourished his entire body.
"This state is wonderful; spiritual practice is truly captivating."
He got up, got out of bed, washed up quickly, and then went to the window.
The morning light shone on the back of his hand, making his skin appear almost unreal, with a very faint and thin sheen on its surface. It was almost imperceptible unless you looked closely, but if you took a closer look, you would find that this skin was quite different from that of an ordinary person.
Su Ye looked down at his fist, his five fingers slightly clenched.
He didn't rush to conclusions, but instead took a half step back, slightly lowered his waist and back, and suddenly punched out with his right fist!
boom!
The punch landed in the air and surprisingly created a slight tremor. The curtains in front of him suddenly billowed as if they had been pushed from the front, followed by a series of crackling sounds. The neatly arranged papers on the desk were shaken and flung into the air by the force of the punch.
Su Ye slowly withdrew his fist, a hint of satisfaction in his eyes.
This punch, which didn't land on anything, was simply thrown, yet it still managed to create such a commotion.
The increase in power was more tangible than he had imagined.
He thought for a moment, then picked up a small knife he usually used to peel fruit from the table.
This time he didn't press the back of the knife.
Instead, he used two fingers to pinch the blade directly.
The cold, sharp blade pressed against the skin. In the past, even the slightest pressure would have drawn blood. But now, with Su Ye applying pressure with his fingers, the skin slightly dented, and not even a white mark was left where the blade touched the flesh.
Add more force.
Click.
He managed to bend and fold the blade of the fruit knife by squeezing it so hard.
Su Ye opened his palm and glanced at his fingertips.
Unharmed.
There wasn't even a scratch.
He stared at his hand for a long time, the light in his eyes growing brighter and brighter.
"Through cultivation, my skin seems to be the first to change, becoming terrifyingly tough, impervious to blades and spears? Is this my first evolutionary point?"
"I just don't know if this is my unique characteristic, or if it's the first extraordinary point for everyone who has embarked on cultivation."
Su Ye muttered to himself.
There is still too little information available.
He could only confirm that his skin was becoming increasingly tough, as if it were the first part of his body to be tempered by spiritual energy. As for whether this was a common characteristic of all cultivators, he would have to continue observing, comparing, and recording.
Just as Su Ye was about to continue with some other tests, there was a knock on the door.
dong dong dong.
Su Ye frowned slightly.
So early, who is it?
He walked to the door, opened it, and saw a middle-aged man standing outside wearing a shirt and trousers, his hair neatly combed, a briefcase tucked under his arm, and a professional smile on his face.
"Are you Dr. Su Ye?"
Su Ye's heart stirred slightly, but he didn't show it on his face. He simply nodded and asked, "I am. And you are?"
"Hello, hello, I'm Zhou from the Personnel Department of the Second People's Hospital of Jiangcheng City." The middle-aged man immediately extended his hand, his smile becoming even more enthusiastic. "It's a bit presumptuous of us to come so early in the morning, but we are eager to recruit talent, and we hope Dr. Su won't mind."
Su Ye was stunned for a moment.
Second courtyard?
His mind is as sharp as lightning.
Poaching people?
Sure enough, what the man surnamed Zhou said next confirmed his guess.
"Here's the thing, our hospital already knows that you got first place in the province in the medical licensing exam this time. This result is really outstanding, especially since you are only a resident physician now. Your future is limitless." He said sincerely, "Our Second Hospital is very sincere. If you are willing to consider it, we can discuss things like converting you from a temporary to a permanent position, giving you special training, and allocating more departmental resources after you finish your residency."
"And as you know, although the Second Hospital is not as famous as the First Hospital, it has developed rapidly in recent years and its platform is not bad. If a young person like you had come earlier, we could have given you more opportunities."
Su Ye listened quietly.
I wasn't surprised at all.
Jiangcheng is neither a large nor a small city; within Jiangnan Province, it's just a medium-sized city. Its medical resources are far inferior to those of the provincial capital. Yet, in such a place, a doctor with the highest medical license in the province emerged, and he was also a resident physician. It's no wonder that other hospitals were eyeing him.
Talented people are something that must be fought for.
The man surnamed Zhou looked at the young man in front of him and sighed inwardly.
too young.
And he was even more composed than I had imagined.
With bright eyes and a clean demeanor, he stood there neither humble nor arrogant, exuding a composure beyond his years. Most young people would show some surprise or unease when faced with a hospital actively poaching them, but Su Ye did not; he simply listened calmly.
No wonder he can get first place in the province.
This kind of composure alone is something that most young people don't possess.
After listening, Su Ye smiled and spoke very politely.
"I'm sorry, I don't have that intention at the moment."
The refusal was very decisive.
The man surnamed Zhou was stunned for a moment, clearly not expecting Su Ye to act without any hesitation.
He wanted to say a few more words, but Su Ye spoke first.
"I am currently undergoing standardized residency training at the First Affiliated Hospital, and many things are still undecided. I personally prefer to focus on doing the things at hand first. I appreciate the Second Affiliated Hospital's attention, but I don't want to think about these things in the short term."
This is a very well-reasoned statement, yet its meaning is quite clear.
The man surnamed Zhou looked at him for two seconds, knowing that further persuasion would be pointless, so he could only smile and nod: "Alright, it's good for young people to have their own ideas. Keep my contact information, and contact me anytime if you change your mind."
After saying that, he took out a business card from his briefcase and handed it to Su Ye.
Su Ye accepted it and thanked him.
After the door closed, the room became quiet again.
Su Ye glanced down at the business card in his hand and casually placed it on the table.
This is the sensation caused by winning the provincial first prize.
……
We arrived at the hospital.
As Su Yegang walked into the urology clinic, he saw Zhang Yuanping standing at the entrance of the corridor, looking unusually excited.
As soon as Su Ye came over, Zhang Yuanping immediately waved to him.
"Su Ye, come here."
Su Ye quickly walked over: "Teacher Zhang, what's wrong?"
Zhang Yuanping lowered his voice, but the fluctuations in his tone were impossible to suppress.
"The vice dean is looking for you."
Su Ye's heart stirred slightly.
Vice Dean?
Is it really that big of a fuss over just being ranked first in the province for a medical license?
Looking at his surprised expression, Zhang Yuanping couldn't help but want to laugh.
"You did a great job on the exam this time. Jiangcheng hasn't had such good medical school results in years." He patted Su Ye on the shoulder, his tone complex, a mixture of admiration and emotion. "Go on, they've been waiting for you for a while."
Su Ye nodded.
Then he turned around and walked towards the administration building.
