Chapter 8 Genius? Perfect Fusion!
Chapter 8 Genius? Perfect Fusion!
When the bell rang to signal the end of the exam, the reactions in the exam room were clearly divided.
Some people slumped back in their chairs with a sigh of relief, while others frowned and checked their answer sheets over and over, afraid of filling in the wrong line. After handing in their papers, some people simply lay on their desks, looking utterly hopeless. Others muttered to themselves, "What was the answer to question 87 in Unit 3 again?" The people next to them immediately perked up their ears. After the two of them compared their answers, they had a heated argument, and then one of them laughed while the other cried.
The myriad aspects of human nature are all present in this examination hall.
Su Ye stood up, turned around, and walked out of the classroom.
The corridor was already crowded with people who had finished their exams, who gathered in twos and threes to compare answers. The atmosphere was as lively as a market. Su Ye walked through the crowd at a moderate pace, his expression as calm as if he had just finished eating in the cafeteria.
He finished all 600 questions in about a third of the total time. He then spent the remaining time checking them from beginning to end and found that there was nothing that needed to be changed. Damn, I'm awesome.
Su Ye walked out of the examination building. The sunlight was a bit dazzling, so he squinted.
"We need to go back."
……
When Jiang Xiaoyue came out of the examination room, the first thing she did was take out her phone and send a message to Su Ye.
"How did the exam go?"
"Where are you? Want to grab a bite?"
"Has something happened to you lately? Tell me about it."
Five minutes after sending the three messages, Su Ye replied with one.
"It's alright. I'm back at the hospital. I took the morning off, but I have to go to work this afternoon."
Jiang Xiaoyue's lips twitched as she looked at the reply.
Did they run away without even eating after the exam?
She had originally wanted to visit Su Ye in person to check on him and ask him what was wrong with him lately and if something had happened in his life, but he had already left.
"You..." she sighed helplessly at her phone screen.
The girl with the bun hairstyle next to her leaned over and asked, "What's wrong?"
"My senior went straight back to work at the hospital after finishing his exam."
"Huh? So rushed?"
"Who knows?" Jiang Xiaoyue put away her phone and shook her head. "My senior brother has been acting weirder lately."
……
Examination Center of the Municipal Health Commission, Marking Office.
As is customary, the results of the written exam for the medical practitioner's license are released within one to two weeks after the exam, and the marking process usually doesn't start that quickly. But this year, the head of the marking team is an old man who can't sit still.
Zhou Jingtang, 71 years old, is a lifelong professor at Jiangcheng Medical University and an advisor to the Provincial Clinical Medicine Examination Committee. He is a leading figure in the Jiangcheng medical circle. After retiring, he was rehired as an advisor to the marking group. Although he is called an advisor, he personally marks the papers every year and does not listen to anyone's advice.
"Since I'm just idling around anyway, I might as well see what level the young people are at these days."
These are his exact words every year.
The written exam for the medical practitioner's license consists of standardized multiple-choice questions that can be graded by machine. However, there is a subjective assessment component each year, such as the thought process for answering case analysis questions and the reasoning process for clinical decision-making questions. These require manual review by an expert panel.
Wearing his reading glasses, Zhou Jingtang flipped through the documents one by one.
Most of the papers were mediocre, with the correct answers and mistakes. It was clear that the students had put in the effort to memorize the material, but that was all. They were just repeaters of standard answers, with nothing particularly outstanding.
When he turned to the thirtieth or so copy, his hand paused for a moment.
The multiple-choice questions on this test paper had a very high accuracy rate, which is not surprising, as there are several high-scoring students every year. What made him stop was the case analysis section.
The candidate wrote supplementary explanations in the blank spaces next to several clinical decision-making questions.
Zhou Jingtang raised his eyebrows.
This was a question about the differential diagnosis of renal space-occupying lesions. The standard answer was C, and this student also chose C, but wrote a note next to it:
"Although option C is correct, the description of the enhanced CT scan in the question is ambiguous. If the enhancement is mild and heterogeneous, the possibility of adipose-deficient angiomyolipoma should be further considered. It is recommended to supplement with MRI chemical shift imaging for differentiation, rather than directly suggesting renal cell carcinoma."
Zhou Jingtang pushed his reading glasses up and read the passage again.
Then he turned to the next case analysis question, where the candidate had written supplementary explanations on the differential diagnosis of a complex multi-system disease. The explanations were clear, the logic was rigorous, and the candidate even proposed a differential diagnosis approach that was not covered in the standard answer.
Some of the ideas are still a bit immature, but this student dares to raise them, dares to think about them, and the direction of his thinking is correct.
Zhou Jingtang put down the exam paper, took off his reading glasses, and rubbed his eyes.
Then he picked up the landline on the table and dialed a number.
"Old Chen, come here for a second, help me look at this exam paper."
Five minutes later, three more people appeared in the marking office.
Chen Guowei is a professor of surgery at the Affiliated Hospital of Jiangcheng Medical University; Liu Fanghua is the chief physician of internal medicine at the Provincial People's Hospital; and there is a middle-aged man in his forties who is the deputy director of the examination center.
The three of them took turns looking at the exam paper.
"The supplementary explanation for this case analysis is very interesting," Chen Guowei said, adjusting his glasses. "Especially the multi-system differential diagnosis in Unit 4. I've seen similar cases in clinical practice with this line of reasoning. His reasoning is correct. Many attending physicians who have worked for five or six years might not even think of this aspect."
Liu Fanghua nodded: "She has a solid foundation and active clinical thinking. She's not the type to just memorize; she truly understands. There are a few places where her expression is still a bit immature, but those flaws don't detract from her overall excellence."
Zhou Jingtang flipped the exam paper to the first page and glanced at the candidate information.
Name: Su Ye.
Institution: Jiangcheng City First People's Hospital.
Identity: Resident physician standardized training trainee.
"A resident trainee from the First Affiliated Hospital?" Chen Guowei was somewhat surprised.
"First year of standardized residency training," the deputy director of the examination center added, having just checked the system.
There was a two-second silence in the office.
"A genius." Zhou Jingtang put his reading glasses back on, his tone calm but his eyes shining.
"This is truly a genius. It seems this kid was a top student in school." Chen Guowei nodded. "It's rare to see someone with this kind of clinical thinking in their first year of residency."
Liu Fanghua closed the test paper and looked at Zhou Jingtang: "Professor Zhou, this student deserves attention and can be nurtured."
Zhou Jingtang didn't say anything, but simply took the exam paper out of the stack and placed it separately on the corner of the table.
Then proceed to approve the next one.
But on the test paper on the corner of the table, the two characters "Su Ye" lay there quietly.
……
The next day, early morning.
Su Ye opened his eyes.
His first feeling was that the strange sensation in his lower abdomen that had accompanied him for several days had disappeared.
It has completely disappeared.
Instead, there is an unprecedented sense of clarity, from head to toe, from skin to bone marrow, every cell feels as if it has been washed by a clear spring, light, full, and abundant.
A line of light blue text appeared in my field of vision.
[Water-based Golden Elixir Prototype - Fusion Completed]
Integration progress: 100%
[The host's physique has undergone initial modification, and the prototype of the water-based golden core has been perfectly connected to your body, continuously modifying your spiritual core...]
Su Ye sat up and looked out the window.
The morning light streamed in through the gaps in the curtains, falling on the back of his hand. He could feel the faint warmth carried by the light, the breath flowing in the air, and the footsteps, heartbeats, and breathing of pedestrians on the street below.
Ten meters, twenty meters, thirty meters.
The range of perception has expanded three times compared to the previous few days.
Moreover, it's not just the range that's different; the clarity is also completely different. Before, it was a blurry, outline-like perception; now it's high-definition and rich in detail.
He closed his eyes.
The "image" of the entire building unfolded in his mind, with every floor, every room, and every person in motion appearing in his perception in the form of spiritual energy fluctuations.
Su Ye opened his eyes and let out a long breath.
The world has changed dramatically.
