Where's my golden core? Did you think I removed a kidney stone?

Chapter 20: Taking Action!

Chapter 20: Taking Action!

Su Ye's heart stirred slightly.

Wang Dandan isn't the type to joke about things like this. Although she might be a bit frivolous, she always has a sense of propriety, so something must have really happened.

Su Ye stood up and said to Zhang Yuanping, "Teacher Zhang, something's come up with my friend, I'll go check on it."

Zhang Yuanping waved his hand: "Go ahead."

Su Ye strode out of the consultation room, crossed the corridor, and headed towards the neurology department.

Before I even reached the door, I could hear the noise.

It wasn't just ordinary noise; it was a chaotic mess filled with angry and aggressive screams, mixed with women's cries and the attempts of others to stop them.

Su Ye quickened his pace, turned the corner at the end of the corridor, and saw a large crowd gathered at the entrance of the neurology clinic.

He squeezed into the crowd, his spirits lifted.

Medical disputes.

……

Disputes involving medical staff are not uncommon in hospitals.

Everyone who has worked in a hospital has seen this to some extent. At best, it involves verbal abuse, throwing things, blocking entrances, and hanging banners. At worst, it involves physical assaults or even attacks on medical staff with weapons. Every now and then, news reports about this kind of thing appear, which is chilling to see.

Are there bad doctors? Yes.

Misdiagnosis, missed diagnosis, poor attitude, and accepting bribes are all real phenomena that cannot be denied.

More often than not, doctors and family members are simply standing at two different perspectives. Doctors see the illness, the data, and the probability, while family members see their loved ones, their pain, and their fear. Neither side is wrong, but once communication breaks down, the conflict will erupt like a volcano.

Ultimately, it is often the most innocent people who bear the brunt of it all.

For example, right now.

Su Ye took a clear look at the situation and his expression instantly darkened.

The target of the medical dispute was not Wang Dandan.

It's Su Bei.

Su Bei stood at the door of the consultation room, her white coat stained with a few drops of liquid that she couldn't tell if it was water or something else. Her face was deathly pale, her eyes were red-rimmed, and tears had already left two streaks on her face. Her lips were trembling, but she was still trying her best to maintain the last bit of composure.

Standing in front of her was a man in his early thirties, bald, with bulging muscles and a half-tattoo on his neck. He was clearly not a good guy and was pointing his finger at Su Bei's nose, cursing loudly, spitting all over Su Bei's face.

"My mother was treated here! Now she's in the ICU and you're telling me it's not your responsibility?"

"I...I was just assisting with the record-keeping, I wasn't the attending physician..." Su Bei's voice trembled as she tried to explain, but her voice was so soft that it was almost drowned out by the other party's roar.

"I don't care who's in charge! All I know is that my mom's in the ICU. You think you can just run away now that something's happened?"

Su Ye narrowed his eyes slightly.

He glanced around. Several doctors and nurses from the neurology department stood behind him, their expressions varied. Some looked sympathetic, while others remained silent with their heads down. Not one of them stood up to speak for Su Bei.

Su Bei was just a resident trainee.

A resident in neurology is only responsible for assisting the attending physician with taking notes, ordering lab tests, and running errands to deliver specimens. She doesn't even have prescription rights, let alone participate in core diagnostic and treatment decisions.

But now, she is facing the anger of the patient's family alone.

Su Ye understood.

Su Bei was pushed out to take the fall.

The attending physician who was actually responsible for the diagnosis and treatment has disappeared somewhere, leaving a resident trainee to take the blame. Anyway, if something goes wrong, it will be the intern's fault. At worst, the intern can write a self-criticism and be transferred out of the department. It won't have any impact on the higher-ups.

Society is treacherous.

Hospitals are no exception.

"I'm telling you, this isn't over!" The bald man took a step forward, and Su Bei instinctively backed away, her back hitting the wall. She looked pitiful, with nowhere to retreat. "If you don't give me an explanation, I'll make sure you can't stay in this industry!"

Wang Dandan suddenly appeared, her small frame blocking Su Bei's path. She spread her arms wide, like a mother hen protecting her chicks, her face filled with fear but she didn't back down an inch.

"Don't bully her! She's just a resident! Go talk to the attending physician if you have any problems! You're so tall and strong, are you trying to bully her?!"

"Get out of my way!" The bald man shoved Wang Dandan aside. Wang Dandan staggered two steps and almost fell, gritting her teeth.

Security guards have arrived, and two uniformed guards are trying to control the situation.

However, the man's emotions became increasingly agitated.

"Ah!" the crowd suddenly cried out.

The bald man pulled a knife from his waist; it was a folding knife, the blade gleaming coldly under the fluorescent light.

The security guard's hand froze in mid-air. He clearly hadn't expected the other person to pull out a knife and was stunned for a moment. The surrounding crowd seemed to have been electrocuted and took several steps back, their expressions filled with terror.

The bald man held a knife, his eyes bloodshot, like a wild beast driven to desperation.

"Something happened to my mother, I want you all dead!"

Everyone gasped!

At this critical moment!

"Stop right there."

An angry voice rang out from the side, and a hand suddenly reached out from the crowd, like a blur, and with a snap, firmly gripped the bald man's wrist that was holding the knife.

Su Ye frowned, his heart filled with anger. Su Bei had been pushed out as a shield, and the patient's family member was being unreasonable, directly pulling out a knife and threatening Su Bei's life. Su Bei and Wang Dandan behind him were pale-faced, but they both breathed a sigh of relief when they saw Su Ye arrive.

"Who are you... are you a doctor too?"

The bald man struggled, his strength was considerable, his muscles were tense and his veins were bulging, trying to break free, but his wrists seemed to be cast in cement, not moving an inch.

Su Ye remained expressionless, a fierce glint flashing in his eyes, and his fingers tightened.

Click.

Su Ye knew his limits. This wasn't the sound of bones breaking, but a faint cracking sound from a joint being pushed to its limit. Yet, this sound was enough to make the bald man's face contort instantly.

"what!"

The knife slipped from his hand and fell to the ground with a clatter.

Su Ye kicked out with his right foot at the same time. It wasn't a hard kick, but it landed precisely on the back of the opponent's knee. The bald man lost his balance and fell to the ground with a thud, his back hitting the corridor floor heavily.

Su Ye stopped exerting his strength.

If he hadn't held back, that kick to the abdomen would have been enough to rupture the man's liver or even kill him.

"You, you..."

The bald man lay on the ground, wincing in pain, trying to get up, but the moment he looked up, he met Su Ye's gaze, and his body suddenly froze.

Su Ye stood in front of him, looking down at him with a sharp gaze. An indescribable aura emanated from him, like a bucket of ice water being poured over his head, making the hair on the back of the bald man stand up instantly.

What terrifying young people...

In just a moment, that imposing aura vanished, so quickly that those around them thought it was their imagination.

Su Ye looked down at the bald man on the ground, his voice not loud, but every word was clear.

"I understand how you feel. Anyone would be anxious and angry when a loved one is in the ICU; that's only human nature."

"But you've got the wrong person."

Su Ye glanced at Su Bei to the side to soothe her emotions, then looked back at the bald man.

"She is a resident trainee, which is basically an intern. Her job in this department is to assist with record keeping and running errands. She has no prescription authority, no decision-making authority for diagnosis and treatment. She did not decide on your mother's treatment plan, she did not prescribe the medication, she did not perform the surgery, and the accident you mentioned has nothing to do with her."

"If you were holding a knife to a 24-year-old girl, what do you think your mother would think if she saw that in the ICU?"

The bald man opened his mouth as if to say something, but when he met Su Ye's gaze, he swallowed his words back.

The security guards finally reacted, and two of them lifted the bald man off the ground, one on each side. Several other security guards who had rushed over also surrounded him, kicking the knife aside.

"Sir, please come with us."

The bald man stopped struggling and was led away by the security guards. As he passed Su Ye, he subconsciously turned his head to avoid Su Ye's gaze. It wasn't a mistake; the young man was simply too frightening.

The corridor fell silent again.
